The First Descent

A complete, playable loop that runs inside Discord: bond an affinity, commit to a doctrine, and fight two Divine Sins through the same battle engine that resolves every other fight in ANDY. This page explains how to start it and what each step actually does.

Provisional text. The wording of this journey is testing scaffolding, not approved story content. It names no places, people, or history — only content that already exists in the game's registries. A player sees this same disclaimer in Discord on every step.
How to start

Three commands

The journey lives in the Discord bot. The portal is a static reference — it does not read your account and does not track your progress.

  1. /profile — create your profile and a Human character, if you have not already.
  2. /character — make it your active character. The journey uses whichever character is active.
  3. /explore — begin. Re-running it resumes a journey already in progress rather than starting a second one.

What you actually do

Bond an Affinity

Decision

Choose one Human affinity to bond. This fixes which Ultimate you may ever equip — it cannot be changed later on this character.

Choose a Doctrine

Decision

Commit to a loadout doctrine. This sets your abilities, curse and ultimate as your character's Default build. The fight ahead is winnable with some doctrines and not others.

The Trial

Encounter

Greed steals buffs and artifacts, then taxes what you gain. Sustained damage is rewarded; a slow, passive build is ground down.

Opponent: Greed divine_sin.mammon

Greed's Law: buffs and artifacts are stolen, and gains are taxed.

The Law

Encounter

Envy mirrors every meaningful action and adapts to repetition. Burst that leans on one trick is answered and turned back.

Opponent: Envy divine_sin.nemesis

Envy's Law: every meaningful action feeds it, and repetition is adapted to.

Resolution

Ending

The descent ends here. Your decisions were recorded, and the boss-victory reward was granted once.

Consequences

The doctrine you pick decides the fight

A doctrine writes a real build — abilities, curse, and ultimate — to your character. Choosing one is not flavour: on the shipped balance, one doctrine loses the first encounter outright, one wins it and then loses the second, and only one clears both.

Duelist

High critical chance and burst. Wins short fights; struggles when the opponent punishes repetition.

class.archer

ability.human.deadeye, ability.human.ionic_storm, ability.human.red_hawk

Attrition

Freeze buildup, area damage and self-healing. Slower, but survives the fights that punish burst.

class.mage

ability.human.creeping_chill, ability.human.seedbomb, ability.human.valor

Brute

Bleed, charged strikes and retaliation. Straightforward damage — and the least forgiving against a Sin's Law.

class.knight

ability.human.bleed, ability.human.shattering_charge, ability.human.retaliation_swarm

Honest limits

What this journey does not have yet

ANDY has no approved narrative content. This loop is mechanically complete and deliberately unglamorous. These are the specific pieces that need to be written and approved before it can be called canon.

  • journey title An approved name for the player's first exploration thread. Currently standing in: The First Descent
  • journey premise Approved motivation that places a new Human in the world without inventing history. Currently standing in: the reason a Human Being enters the world
  • node titles Approved names for the three decision beats and two encounters. Currently standing in: Approach / Doctrines / The Trial / The Law / Resolution
  • node prose Approved descriptive prose for each beat. Currently standing in: one sentence per node describing only what the player does
  • Sin approach text Approved in-world framing for meeting a Sin; lore for all seven is unpublished. Currently standing in: registry mechanics only
  • reward framing Approved naming/framing for what a boss victory is understood to mean. Currently standing in: existing boss-victory item, unnamed in text

Everything above is read from the journey the bot actually ships.
